Up Close at the San Diego Zoo

Kongo was off to one of his most favorite spots in San Diego today, the world famous San Diego Zoo.  This time he was on a mission.  Try to get as close to the animals as possible.  Here are some of the results.

An orangutan stares at the crowd aping him on the other side of the glass
This flamingo buries its beak under the wing and eyes Kongo with a pale iris.
This old matron has seen it all
Kongo couldn’t resist capturing these two ladies in their Sunday park finery listening intently to an explanation about the bone structure of a simian hand
A rhinoceros cools off in the water.
A toddler gets up close and personal with a giraffe.
A California condor. One of the rarest of all birds.
Eye to eye with a kingfisher
Kongo monkeying around in the ape exhibit.

The San Diego Zoo is open every day of the year, including holidays.  Summer hours are 9 to 9.  An adult one day pass is $42.  Children 3-11 tickets are $32.  There are many specials and discounts available so check the internet before heading for the zoo.  Kongo always buys an annual Zoofari Pass and skips the lines and saves a lot of money.  The San  Diego Zoo is located in Balboa Park near downtown San Diego.

Travel safe.  Have fun.

    1. Thanks. It’s a fantastic place to spend a few hours and living in San Diego means you don’t have to do it all at once.
