On his last day aboard the AMA DOLCE, Kongo visits the German city of Nuremberg in the state of Bavaria. Nuremberg was almost completely destroyed by Allied bombing in World War II since it was known as the heart of the Nazi movement, a strategic rail center, and a source of industry for the Nazi war machine. The fountain above, built in 1499, was one of the few original works to survive in the old downtown area and it was completely covered with a protective concrete blast wall.

In the pictures above, Kongo views the site where mass Nazi party rallies were held in the mid-1930s. The site is in disrepair today and the area is used for rock concerts and car racing. The other picture is of Courtroom 600, the place in the Palace of Justice where the Nuremberg war crimes trials were held following the end of the war. It is still used today as an active court.

The pictures below show some scenes from the rebuilt square in the center of town and the magnificent churches there.

Today (September 16) Kongo travels overland to Prague, Czech Republic for three more days before heading home.
