Perfect Prague

Kongo spent the day roaming about Prague, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. He visited the must-see Prague Castle area, wandered in and out of churches and palaces over 1,000 years old, took a lunch cruise along the Vltava River, strolled through the old Jewish quarter, browsed the square in Old Town, and stood in a crowd of several hundred people to watch the hourly show of mechanical machinations at the astronomical clock. In other words, all the monkey tourist things but this was his first visit to the city so perhaps Kongo can be forgiven for staying on the main jungle trails. While Prague has some down sides, they’re hardly worth mentioning here (maybe later) but for now, all Kongo can say is, “WOW!”

About 1.5 million residents live in Prague, which is the capital of the Czech Republic and is part of the European Union. It was part of the Soviet bloc until the mid-1990s when it once again became a free country. Prague was spared any serious fighting during World War II so it is one of the few major European cities that still retains it’s original pre-war character. Everywhere you go in Prague you are looking up at the wonderful skyline or beautiful buildings.

  1. That clock is rather special, isn’t it? I’m glad you were impressed. A friend who was there about the same time last year said it was too busy and very expensive.

    1. The clock dates back to the early 1400s. It shows the Zodiac, positions and phases of the moon and other things. Every hour windows open and the Apostles move around. A skeleton representing death rings a bell. Very cool clock.
