Park Perfect

It was another picture perfect San Diego day…for about two hours in between rain showers so Kongo scooped up his camera bag and scampered over to Balboa Park to try to get a few pictures.

Kongo takes a break in the butterfly garden

Balboa Park is one of San Diego’s most popular attractions. It was laid out in 1868 but wasn’t really developed until 1915 for the Panama – California Exposition and was further developed or the 1935 California Pacific International Exposition. The park buildings are redone in the same style and layout as the original 1915 buildings.

Today, the 1,200 acre park houses open space, green belts, gardens, walking paths, museums, theaters, restaurants, an organ pavilion, and the world famous San Diego Zoo, one of Kongo’s favorite spots.

Balboa Park and its buildings are National Historic Landmarks and are on the National Register of Historic Places.

The park is a great place to relax, get some exercise, watch people, soak up a bit of culture, and enjoy the outdoors. Most things are free.

I remember this park quite well. It was one of those rare occasions in my life when I had to tiptoe around looking for shade! Beautiful place though. Love the dog in the mac shot.
