This week’s Photo Challenge is to take a picture of the same subject in two different ways. Never good at following directions, Kongo decided to take this challenge on in three ways.
While visiting Santa Fe, New Mexico a few weeks ago the monkey became enamored with The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He loves the simple but classic architecture and clean lines. So he tried shooting it three different ways using the “rule of thirds” in the composition. The first photo had some green trees around the base of the steeple but the monkey thought that was a bit too cluttered. So then he went for just the steeple against a New Mexico blue sky. He liked that better but somehow it seemed too stark. So he moved his feet about twenty paces to the right and took the steeple with the Lady of Guadalupe as the dominant subject. This was his favorite as it captured the style of the church while putting a geographical place and reference to it.

I like the one with the statue. The angle is a great choice. Not only does it give a geographical context, the Madonna in the foreground seems like an overpowering force. I like the “stark” view of the church too, though.
