Let Sleeping Ducks Stand

_MG_3798Kongo observed this drake mallard closely for several minutes earlier this week as it perched on a fountain in Balboa Park. It never opened its eyes. It never moved. Even when the monkey got quite close it never ruffled a feather. Kongo always thought ducks slept with their beak tucked under a wing or standing on one leg. Many ducks will sleep in the water to avoid predators. But this mallard seemed content to stand on two legs and sleep. Maybe it was just a duck nap.

Travel safe. Have fun.
