Thankfully, the marine layer has returned to San Diego so our early mornings are back to the traditional “May Gray” and moving toward “June Gloom.”  The temperatures are down from triple digits to the more usual mid-70s and the fires across the county have abated. All is now well on the West Coast which probably means its time for the monkey to start traveling again and in fact he’s off to Philadelphia in the morning.

The image above is a panorama stitched together from snaps taken from the lookout point at Cabrillo National Monument yesterday.  A sail race was forming up just at the harbor entrance south of Ballast Point .

Cabrillo National Monument at the southern tip of Point Loma in San Diego has some of the best views of the city.

The monument commemorates the landing of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in San Diego Bay in September, 1542, marking the first time a European expedition set foot on the West Coast of the United States.

The old Point Loma lighthouse is also on the monument grounds.  It is no longer used as it often is above the fog banks and not visible to mariners.  A new light at sea level is set below the cliffs.
