Nestled beneath the San Diego side of the Coronado Bridge is Chicano Park. This is a fascinating place filled with interesting characters, dozens of intersecting lines, and some of the most magnificent street murals in the world. The murals are the real draw to this little culture pocket a mile or so from glitzy downtown. Kongo visited it this evening with friend John.
The Travel Theme is all purple this week and Kongo’s response to her photo challenge is way up in […]
Kongo is in Florida for a few weeks and got up early this morning to capture the sunrise at the beach at Big Amanda Island northeast of Jacksonville. Pam, one of Kongo’s favorite bloggers, told him about this beach over dinner in San Diego a few months ago, so the monkey was really happy to finally get a chance to see it in person.
So this is the scene from Kongo’s backyard as CalFire airplanes attack a brush fire in the Mission Trails Regional Park. What a week! The monkey has no idea how the fire started but is happy that the ever alert forestry professionals were on top of the situation and pretty much beat this one down with an air assault.
One of those days. Sigh. Sigh again. Everyone knows that Maui is like three time zones after the West Coast which in turn is three time zones behind the East Coast. Kongo spends so much time on the East Coast that he pretty much just keeps EST wherever he is and that includes Maui so this morning at 3 AM local he was up taking pictures of the nearly full moon and then strolled around the property getting pre-dawn and sunrise photos before doing a few conference calls and heading out to the lava fields at La Perouse Bay. He never made it there because three miles short of the lava good friend Brent called and said our house it San Diego had been robbed!
So Kongo got Leid as he checked into his hotel this afternoon in Maui. How did he get here? Well, the house was getting tented for termites back in San Diego and he had to go someplace for a few days while the bugs got gassed so why not Maui? It worked. So now he is spending five days in paradise before heading straight from here to Florida for more work.
So Kongo went to school today. Actually, he wand to Band Camp at San Diego State University with ten advanced and aspiring tuba players. Kongo’s good friend, Brent, is a professor of music at SDSU and after several glasses of wine on the patio last night they came up with the great idea of the monkey tagging along to see band camp and take some pictures.
