Phantom Monkeys of the Opera


Long time readers will recall that Kongo is a bit of an opera buff.  He also likes theater and his all time, never to be exceeded, favorite is Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1988 musical Phantom of the Opera, based on the Gaston Leroux novel written in 1910 and inspired by the magnificent Opéra Garnier in Paris.  So naturally, when Kongo visited Paris a few weeks ago a trip to this icon of France was a high note of his visit.  Kongo has seen Phantom in London (three times), New York, Washington, DC, San Diego, and Abu Dhabi so being able to scamper up the Grand Staircase was pretty special but he was truly overwhelmed by the beauty of opulence of the rest of the building. Ailsa’s Theme: Costume

Ailsa’s theme this week is Costume.  These two little ballerinas are wearing outfits fresh from the Paris Opera House (That’s where they do ballet in Paris) depicting the original costumes from Swan Lake and Sylphida.  Kongo actually saw Sylphida at the Bolshoi in Moscow several years ago.  Life comes full circle (or is it pirouette?) Window Shopping in Paris


Kongo isn’t really a shopper.  Mrs. Kongo, on the other hand, has honed this skill to a fine art but even she was a bit overwhelmed with the shopping opportunities and wide variety of things designed to dazzle and tempt even those that have everything.  While walking around one day, Kongo snapped some photos of some of the fun things available on the streets of Paris.
