IMG_0811-5Kiev. This is a subject that gives us all something to reflect upon indeed. This image is of the Mother of the Motherland Statue overlooking the Dnieper River in Kiev, Ukraine. This mother of all statues was built by the Soviet Union and inaugurated in 1981 to memorialize the millions who died in the Great Patriotic War (World War II) but it’s presence today may be giving us more to reflect upon than war dead.   Continue reading “Take 2 on Weekly Photo Challenge: Reflections”

Monkeys Don’t Eat Fatback!

Kongo paid a quick visit to the Besarabsky Rynok food market in Kiev.  It is the most famous indoor food market in Kiev and if you’re used to shopping at your local Safeway or Vons in the USA, this will be a treat for you.  The market has all kinds of meats, fish, caviar, sausages, fresh vegetables, and fruit.  It’s a cornucopia of enticing smells and eye raising opportunities.  If you go to Kiev you have to put this on your must see list of things to do to truly experience Kiev.
