U is for UNDERGROUND The Kiev Metro Station, Zoloti Vorata (Golden Gate) is more than 340 feet underground. Build during the 1980s when Ukraine was part of the USSR, this beautiful station is designed in a Ukrainian style. It takes two escalator rides to get to the boarding area. Travel safe. Have fun. After flying pretty much non-stop from San Diego yesterday (leaving at 7 in the morning) Kongo arrives in Kiev at 1130 AM the next day (today). He did have about an hour layover in Atlanta and another hour in Paris to stretch his monkey legs. After checking into his hotel he headed out for a few hours of walking around Kiev. It was a pretty dreary day weather-wise. A rain had just ended but low clouds hung over everything. Temperature in the mid-40s. Above is the Saint Volodymyr Cathedral, only a few blocks from Kongo’s hotel.
