The WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge this week is ABANDONED as in Abandon hope all ye who enter here…(Dante’s supposed sign over the entrance to Hell from his Divine Comedy). Not quite hellish but still a little spooky is this abandoned shack on an old movie set in the hills north of Los Angeles. This week Ailsa conjures up ancient images for her travel theme. Above, ancient rocks at Stonehenge rise above Salisbury Plain in Southern England. See more ancient images at Ailsa’s Where’s My Backpack blog.
Kongo takes up another Photo Challenge and throws his monkey hat into the ring with Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge. He’s admired many of the entries from blogs he follows over the past several weeks and final decided to get in on the fun. The image above is a koi in the gardens at the Temple of Self Realization Fellowship in Encinitas. See more of Kongo’s orange images by continuing to read. See more entries in Cee’s challenge at her blog.
Here’s another take on Ailsa’s Travel Theme this week, which is WORK. Last night Kongo attended a “steel cutting ceremony” at a San Diego shipyard. The ceremony marks the official start of construction on a new ship. Above a pretty fancy machine makes the first “official” cut on a inch-plus piece of steel plate that will go into the construction of the new vessel. See more work images at Where’s my Backpack.
This is Kongo’s second entry for the Weekly Photo Challenge topic this week. The theme is THREE. Here are three photos of a hang glider launcher himself from the cliffs at Torrey Pines in San Diego. See more THREE images at the Daily Post.
While Kongo was getting snowed in on the East Coast and dueling the never-ending polar vortex events in Southern New Jersey things were Springtime busy in Southern California. For the last week or so Mrs. Kongo has been texting about a hummingbird that was building a nest in the camellia bush in the covered entrance just outside the front door. Kongo got to see the new arrival this morning.
This week’s Word Press Photo Challenge is “threes.” To meet this challenge Kongo submits this image of three strings of red chili peppers hung from a house in Santa Fe. In New Mexico, strings of red chili peppers are a symbol of hospitality.
