Budapest Revisited

Kongo spent three days in Budapest earlier this month.  What a city!  Budapest possesses charm, history, stunning views, and mystery.  Loaded with the flavor of the Astro-Hungarian Empire, a taste of the eastern steppes, and the lurking mysteries of the Cold War, Budapest has something for everyone.  These photos try to capture some of the flavor of this marvelous city on the Danube.

Nuremberg

On his last day aboard the AMA DOLCE, Kongo visits the German city of Nuremberg in the state of Bavaria. Nuremberg was almost completely destroyed by Allied bombing in World War II since it was known as the heart of the Nazi movement, a strategic rail center, and a source of industry for the Nazi war machine. The fountain above, built in 1499, was one of the few original works to survive in the old downtown area and it was completely covered with a protective concrete blast wall. Regensberg

The stone bridge in Regensberg, Germany is the oldest span across the Danube it was built about 1200 AD. Regensberg is a small, medieval city of about 130,000 that escaped destruction and damage during World War II. It is a beautiful town filled with narrow cobblestone streets, churches, and quaint shops.

Soaked in Salzburg

You know the expression, “Into every life a little rain must fall …?” Well, Kongo found his fair share during a day outing from Linz to Passau via Salzburg and the Lake District of Austria. Leaving Linz early in the morning under a gray, cold drizzle that only grew worse as the day progressed, Kongo and friends rode the bus for this outing.
