Kongo visited the Santa Barbara Zoo last Friday as part of a first grade field trip. The monkey has been a regular field tripper this year as he helped chaperone granddaughters and their classes all over the area. This excursion was the last one of this school year. (long sigh….) Advertisements
So, Santa found his way to Kongo’s Treehouse in San Diego yesterday and the simpering simian found a wonderful surprise in his stocking. Kongo got his first true “fast glass” from Mrs. Kongo, a Canon EF 50mm f1.2L USM prime lens. The monkey has been dropping hints about this piece of camera kit for some weeks and was thrilled to finally get it. After spending some time with the Sumatran Tigers yesterday, Kongo found this East African Crowned Crane at San Diego’s Safari Park. This bird was all decked out for the holidays with an impressive crown, Christmas red wattle, and a fuzzy little beret that seemed to come straight from 5th Avenue.
If you haven’t visited the new Tiger Trails exhibit at San Diego’s Safari Park you’re missing out. Big time. Kongo spent three hours big game hunting there yesterday and came back with some trophy images.
This inviting spot at San Diego’s Safari Park is located in the World Gardens section of the zoo. It’s far away from the crowds and tourist monkeys scampering all over the more popular attractions and Kongo likes to sit on a little bench under a big pine tree there and listen to the birds. He thinks this is a good image to add to Ailsa’s “Inviting” travel theme this week.
These two steely-eyed young women turned out to be pretty amazing at picking winners during a trip to the horse races at Del Mar. The two grand girls are visiting for a week while Mom and Dad are relaxing on a much-needed adult getaway so Kongo got to play. Mrs. Kongo provided the fashion accessories.
Gorillas are naturally one of Kongo’s favorites when he visits a zoo and today he spent some time with this gorilla family at the San Diego Safari Park in Escondido, California.
